Houston native Don Toliver has been building anticipation for his newly released album, Hardstone Psycho, creating a dark, cinematic atmosphere leading up to the full release. In comparison to his other projects, Don has created more hype than usual, delivering as expected.
Across 16 songs, the Cactus Jack signee develops rock-trap genre fusion with next-level production and composition. Standout tracks like “KRYPTONITE” and “BROTHER STONE” featuring Kodak Black experiment with both subtle and extreme beat changes to add depth to the gritty, atmospheric tracks.
On the other hand, Don successfully flexes his softer vocal chops on songs like “GLOCK” and “DEEP IN THE WATER,” using infectious melodies and drawing inspiration from his own love story with singer Kali Uchis. Future, Metro Boomin, Teezo Touchdown and Travis Scott all make appearances on the album as well, with the Cactus Jack head honcho appearing twice to support his star signee.
Prior to this drop, Don had appearances alongside Yeat and Kaytranada, showcasing his diversity by working with vastly different artists. With so much Don Toliver music in the last year, he has kept his fans well-fed, which should hold us over until whatever he has in store next.
