Mach-Hommy is easily be the biggest advocate for Haiti in the rap game, repping his loyalty to his roots unapologetically throughout his discography. His latest album, #RICHAXXHAITIAN, is no exception, paying homage to Haiti over 17 tracks of relentless lyricism with appearances from a mob of collaborators, both old and new.
Despite having a total of 11 features on the project, Mach takes the opportunity to be the star on his first solo project since 2022. Assisting the Haitian lyricist with his return to the spotlight, contributions from singers like Drea D’Nur, Hephzibah, and even 03 Greedo give the listener momentary pause between the lyrical onslaught produced by Mach and fellow spitters like Roc Marciano, Tha God Fahim, Your Old Droog, Black Thought and others.
On the production side, A-list producers like Kaytranada, Conductor Williams, Georgia Anne Muldrowe, Sadhugold and more create a soundscape that competes with Mach’s unpredictable and abstract flows. From dancey tracks like the title track to gritty, melodic anthems like “LON LON” and sinister poetry on “ANTONOMASIA,” there’s a little bit of everything for long-time fans of the Pray For Haiti rapper.
Lyrically, Mach has never been sharper, sticking to his themes of graphic imagery depicting gun violence and crude sexual acts while interspersing bars about his escape from the struggle to become the subject of his album title. His lyrics often flow by faster than the average listener can understand, but picking up bars with each repeated listen makes for an album experience that always remains fresh while maintaining the catchiness necessary for an enjoyable listen.
One standout track from the album is “SUR LE PONT d’AVIGNON,” which flips a French national song into an anthem for Haitian reparations. Mach also goes toe-to-toe with one of the most skilled rappers of all time, Black Thought, on “COPY COLD,” going flow for flow about their elite musical abilities and respective rags-to-riches experiences.
Overall, another hit in the catalog for Mach-Hommy. Check out his new project #RICHAXXHAITIAN below while we wait and see what he has planned next.
