Denzel Curry has been a staple in the hip-hop community since 2012, when he burst onto the scene with his debut mixtape King of the Mischievous South Vol. 1. Twelve years later, Zel is back to pay homage to his early career with a second volume in the series, stacking up an all-star cast to revisit a classic in his discography.

This series is dedicated to Denzel’s love for Southern hip-hop originating in Memphis, Atlanta, Houston and Florida. Southern legend Kingpin Skinny Pimp handles narration as Zel recruits at least one feature for every track, from OGs like Juicy J and Project Pat to newcomers like Mike Dimes, Kenny Mason and That Mexican OT. Everybody is rapping their asses off on this project, with the only RnB feature being Ty Dolla $ign on “COLE PIMP,” the standalone “love” song on a tracklist chock-full of bangers.

Production across the board progresses on the sound that Denzel blew up off, blending ethereal samples and bold drum patterns to create soundscapes primed for blowing out car subwoofers. This is a change of pace from Zel’s last few projects, which have showcased more jazz-inspired instrumentals and introspective lyricism, proving that he’s still one of the sharpest at both energies.

With such a star-studded tracklist, Denzel Curry was primed for success on King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2. Check out the project and let us know what you think!
