Young Nudy has come a long way since his entrance to the hip-hop industry, fostering relationships with producers that have led to the release of street classics like Slim'erre with Pi'erre Bourne. Nudy's latest single, "John Wayne," continues this trend with a Metro Boomin collaboration combining Wild West-inspired production with Nudy's classic gunslinging bars.
Metro samples Brotherhood of Man's track "Cry Thief" in the intro, pump-faking listeners with a chipmunk soul sample before cutting in a moody synth melody and trap drums, sprinkling in reversed drums to emphasize the bounce on the track. Nudy doesn't waste a moment on the track, using drawn-out flows that come off more conversational than turnt. After teasing the snippet for over a year, Nudy seems ready to start his next rollout by surprising his fans with a sudden drop, simultaneously releasing visuals and another snippet. Clearly inspired by old Western films, the "John Wayne" video features Nudy and Metro partaking in a good, old-fashioned shootout in a saloon.
X user and hip-hop news outlet @Kurrco followed up the announcement of this single with a new snippet teasing the release of Slim'erre 2, the sequel to Pi'erre Bourne and Nudy's first collab tape. This single feels out of place for that project, seeing as Pi'erre produced the entirety of the first installation in the series. Regardless, Young Nudy is gearing up for some major drops, and based on his latest release, we won't be disappointed.
