Harlem rapper Thoto has been building a niche underground audience with consistent releases for the last few years, garnering some support from his labelhead A$AP Rocky’s close affiliates A$AP ANT and A$AP Twelvyy. His latest single “John Connor” is an homage to the Terminator character, using grungy production and simple flows to create an atmospheric track.
This sound is a continuation of the production and lyrical style of his sophomore album BEFORE THE STXRM, introducing the two A$AP members to his world on his latest single. Thoto has been historically stingy with features, usually opting to work with fellow AWGE signee Icytwat as their duo project THOTTWAT.
After a string of singles, Thoto has set the stage for another big release, hyping up the beginning of AWGEST prior to Rocky’s upcoming release of his fourth studio album. Rocky has brought out both members of THOTTWAT at shows over the last three years, prompting listeners to suspect some involvement in his next drop.
